Michaela Ulrichova
When I am cooking
Everything is fine
Please, call the fire station
when you see the fire shine
My apron – so bright
My knife – so sharp
Great for my kitchen fight
Eggs are like grenades – dangerous
In a second I will be without fingers
Tomatoes are bombs
Forks are kitchen guns
Only one plus has my mortal snack
I won´t die with an empty stomach
Tom Marecek
I would like to eat – How about something sweet?
I would like a snack – What about having an egg?
Stop rhyming and feed me
Rhymes don´t satisfy me.
Henry Pevny
One day I was very hungry
I wanted to eat and I was angry
In my country there was too much smog
I went to China and I ordered a dog
I picked my fork and knife
But then I saw the dog was still alive
I called the waitress
She told me to have no stress
But I don´t like the China PES
Tomas Kusy
I love cottage pie
For it I could die
But I have made a deal
So I will better eat some other meal.
What about pizza, said Rick,
I am going to be sick
Aspirin? Oh, thanks, that´s good
Now I hate all the food.
Veronika Martusinova
I go to work
Holding my fork
What is that thing?
It is a sink.
Why is it pink?
I don´t know everything.
Take out the plug!
Oh, here is the mug.
The mug is full
The poem is cool.
Marie Skvarilova
I am holding a spoon
And looking at the moon
It is midnight right now
And I am asking how?
How come I am so hungry every night?
And search the fridge – shining white
There are rotten apples, sour milk and cheese
Not much to please.
I guess I will be starving again …
Klara Rubinova
I am tired I am sad
For my breakfast I have bread
In the school when we have a break
I eat what I packed for snack
Lunch at school?
Very poor.
Then after my dinner I eat
I go to bed and fall asleep.
Pavlina Dvorakova
I have fish
With lemon
On my dish
Like John Lennon.
Ester Kleparnikova
I found my brain in a cup of tea
On the floor in my kitchen
I looked in the mirror
But it wasn´t me
I couldn´t believe it
So I went to sleep
Nicolas Nedd
Nicolas Nedd
He lost his head
And put a turnip on instead
But then: Oh me,
He couldn´t see
So he gave up and
went to bed

English Camp
In 2008 it was the fifth year of the English Camp in Policka. In fact it is an American Camp as it is organized by a group of Americans from Oklahoma.
The theme of this year was “door”- opening, closing… we talked about how we feel when we come to a foreign country, what makes us feel welcome and what makes it difficult to overcome the cultural differences.
Every day started with an opening ceremony in the church. We danced to the energizing music played by Ann Salmons – the music lady and watched sketches prepared by the camp volunteers with stories about Moses and other biblical characters. Then we had program in small groups, we went to five different stations where the Americans prepared some program for us, like: Recreation, Craft, Drama or Door Experience.
This year came to Polička 24 Americans. And we had some special guests at the Door Experience, e.g. a blind man or a social worker talking about their lives.
The camp was every day from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and after that we went on some trips to special places in our region to show the Americans a bit of our country. On Friday we had a barbecue party.
The English Camp is a great way how to practice our English and make new friends.

After 1953 he lived in Europe but never returned to his homeland. Martinů died in Liestal, Switzerland on 28thAugust in 1959. His remains were laid to rest in the cemetery in Polička.
Fishing In Policka
Like many other cities Policka also has a place where local people or tourists can relax or spend their free time. Because fishing is really popular in this region we have a complex of three dams. During the past few years the complex has gone through a big modernization. So now it is almost a paradise for fishermen. Almost every week from spring to late summer, fishing competitions take place there and people who participate can win interesting prizes. If you want to go fishing, you have to buy a day permit which costs 300 crowns or you can buy a year permit for 1400 crowns. You can go fishing any time you want, so I suggest to go fishing at night which can be really unforgettable experience for you. I am glad we have such a great opportunity for spending our free time. I would recommend every visitor of Policka to spend a few relaxing moments there.

Presentation about Tibet in our school
Last week a woman from charity organization M.O.S.T. came to our school and gave a presentation about Tibet. It was connected to the Word-wide commemoration week of the sad events in Tibet fifty years ago. She told us about the main problems of China and Tibet. We saw a film too. It was about families in Tibet who have to sell everything what they had to send their children to India where they can go to school and learn the Tibet traditions and history. Their parents pretend that their child is ill or they may have big problems with the Chinese police. In villages and towns of Tibet are people – guids - who take Tibetian children to India. But to go to India children (many times very young – 4! - 16 years old) must go many days trough Himalayas – the biggest mountains in the world. It was terrible to see so young children who must leave their home and families to go to school and do things which are normal for us. The story was so powerful that many of us were moved and we talked about it after the presentation.

Easter
This feast is celebrated in April all over the world, but there are different customs in each country. It commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Kriste so it is a religious holiday but there are some earthly customs to that too. For example, boys knit the whips and then go to visit their girlfriends and pretend to beat them and girls give them painted eggs that they had prepared before Easter. Of course, we fast too.

Davis Cup
This year Davis Cup taked place in Ostrava. Czech Republic played againts France. For Czech Republic there were players like Tomáš Berdych, Radek Štěpánek, Hernych, Lukáš Dlouhý etc. France had a better team. There were players like Monfils, Simon, Gasguet and Tsonga. Those players were playing four singles and one double. I didnt expect it but Czech Republic won 4:1 to matches. It was really exciting to be in Ostrava and see those tennis stars.
Theatro pantomissimo
Three weeks ago we saw a pantomime play called "The death of Marquis de Sade - On the dark road". From Marquis de Sade came the notion "sadism". It was played in our Theatre club( it´s a place, where happen lots of our cultural events- theatre plays, concerts,lectures...). It was a magic, cruel and dark play, but it was fantastic. One of the actors was a boy, who studied in our grammar school some time ago. The actors were realy amazing. They danced great. It was one of the best plays I have ever seen.

A night with H.Ch.Andersen
This is a national event. It happens every year and it is conected to the birthday of H.Ch.A. One night (this year it will be 28.-29.3.) children stay and sleep at schools or libraries in order to learn more about literature, to discover the joy of reading and enjoy the time together. In our school there are two classes participating in this programme. Usually the older class prepars some games and readings from the books for the younger class. The theme of the night is always one of the well-known authors. We always have a lot of fun and we learn some new information through the games and readings. Last year we had a lot of fun so we are really excited about this year.

Visiting theatre
On monday the 9th we were in the theatre to see a play by famous Czech artists Jiří Voskovec and Jan Werich, music was composed by another famous Czech man - Jaroslav Ježek. It was played by amateur actors from Policka and it is called Kat a Blazen (the translation of this is Hangman and Madman). The story was about revolution in Mexico. It was written in 30s of 20th century and there are many hidden allusions to nazi Germany. Inspite of that Kat a Blazen is a comedy. We all liked it, it was funny and interesting.
